Pickup and shipping: what happens after you win

When you win a lot with us, the next step is pickup at the location listed in that auction's terms, usually here near Hermosa. You'll get an emailed invoice with the pickup window, the address, and any special instructions, and you bring that invoice (and a way to haul your stuff) when you come. Shipping is possible on some smaller items, but it isn't automatic — you need to ask, and it's handled case by case.

How do I know where and when to pick up my items?

Every auction has its own terms, and the pickup information lives right there in the listing before you ever place a bid. That's the first thing we tell people who are new to online auctions Hermosa SD folks bid in: read the terms the same way you'd read the fine print on a bill of sale. Location matters, because an estate auction in southwestern South Dakota might have pickup at the property itself rather than at our place off Highway 79.

Once the lot closes and shows Sold under your bidder number, an invoice lands in your email with the details. If something in it doesn't make sense, call or message us. We'd rather answer a question twice than have you drive from Rapid City, Custer, or Newcastle on the wrong day.

What if I can't make it during the pickup window?

This is where we try to be easier to work with than a big-city auction company. We know people are working, calving, hauling kids to games, or driving in from three counties over, so we keep pickup windows longer than the one-afternoon scramble you'll find elsewhere, and we'll work with you on a different time when we can.

The main thing is to tell us before the window closes, not after. A quick call or email gives us a chance to make arrangements. Items left without any contact become a problem for everybody, and the terms on each auction spell out what happens then — worth a read alongside our answers to common bidder questions.

Can you help me load a heavy item?

Usually, yes. A shop and tool auction in South Dakota tends to have things one person shouldn't be wrestling alone — lathes, welders, air compressors, gun safes, generators, pallets of hand tools. We have equipment on site and we're happy to lend a hand getting heavy lots onto your trailer.

A few things make that go smoother:

Bring the right rig and the right straps

Measure before you bid. A 4×8 utility trailer and a couple of ratchet straps handle a lot, but not a 3,000-pound press. If you're eyeing bigger iron, our notes on buying equipment and generators at auction are worth a look before bidding day.

Bring a helper for the awkward stuff

We'll help with the forklift work. Blankets, boxes, and a second set of hands for the fragile or oddly shaped items are on you, especially with estate lots where there's glassware, furniture, and a hundred small things.

When is shipping an option, and when isn't it?

Small, sturdy, easy to box — that's the sweet spot. Think tools, collectibles, ammo components where legal, and similar items. We'll quote packing and postage on those when asked, and payment for shipping is separate from your invoice total.

Furniture, large equipment, and anything heavy or fragile is pickup only. For those, a third-party freight hauler is your best bet, and you're welcome to arrange one and have them meet us during the pickup window. There's more detail in our longer piece on what pickup and shipping really look like, and you can always see current lots and terms on [our HiBid auction page](https://ramseyauctions.h
