Why Choose Ramsey Auctions
We ran our first auction in April of 2018 out of Newcastle, Wyoming. In 2024 we moved the whole operation to Hermosa, South Dakota, sixteen miles south of Rapid City, where two large buildings give us the room to sort and stage even a full household. Matt and Dawn own the company and do most of the work themselves, with a small part-time crew when a sale needs more hands.
That’s the short history. Here’s what it actually means, depending on which side of the sale you’re on.
If You’re Selling
-
Your sale doesn’t stop at the county line
We run on HiBid, which is nationwide and has locations overseas. A shop tool, a piece of Black Hills gold, an old rifle — those pull bids from people who were never going to drive to Hermosa on a Saturday. Your local buyers still show up. You just aren’t limited to them.
-
We do the sorting
Estate clean-outs are part of what we do. We haul it, sort it, lot it, and stage it in our buildings. You don’t have to get your mother’s house presentable before you call us. The part most families dread is the part we handle.
-
The people you hire are the people who show up
Matt and Dawn do the majority of the work themselves. You aren’t handed off to a rep you meet once and never see again, and you won’t be guessing who to call when you have a question.
-
Better cataloging brings better money
We photograph items properly and write descriptions that say what a thing actually is. Bidders pay more when they’re confident, and they get confident when the listing tells them the truth. It takes us longer on the front end. It comes back on sale day.
-
Online or on site, whichever the sale calls for
Most of what we sell now runs online, because that’s where the buyers are. Some estates, farm sales, and real estate still do better live and on the property. We’ll tell you straight which one fits what you’ve got.
If You’re Buying
-
Descriptions written straight
Everything sells as-is, and we don’t dress it up. We photograph the actual item and describe what we see, including the wear and the chips. You’ll still want to judge for yourself, but you won’t be guessing what’s in the picture.
-
You can put eyes on it first
Every auction has a preview date posted on it, and we’ll open by appointment if that day doesn’t work for you. Live too far away to come? Call and we’ll go put hands on the item and tell you what we find.
-
Nobody snipes you at the buzzer
Our sales use a soft close. A bid in the last minute adds another minute to that lot, so a two-second bid can’t take something out from under you. You always get the chance to answer.
-
Pickup that fits a real schedule
Extended pickup times and a hand with the loading are things we’ve done since the beginning. If you can’t make the posted days, call before checkout closes and we’ll work something out. Smaller items can often ship.
-
Somebody answers the phone
If you’re new to online bidding, or you get stuck partway through registering, call us. We’d rather spend ten minutes on the phone than have you sit out a sale because a website got in the way.
